Welcome

The Retinue of herstmonceux castle home to
Archery, Knights and living history re-enactment groups.

The Retinue of Herstmonceux Castle

Once upon a time there was a small friendly archery club called Park Wood Archery, located in Ninfield in East Sussex.  As the years passed it evolved into a Re-enactment group called The Archers of Herstmonceux Castle. This was agreed with Herstmonceux Castle itself and with England's Medieval Festival Organizers. Since then we have evolved to become a Household (called a Retinue) and we base our history around the era 1460.

Our Colours

The Colours of our household are primary Blue and Yellow. Our flag is made up into quarters, as a nod of respect towards England's Medieval Festival. The Lions are from the Fiennes family who built Herstmonceux Castle itself, and in the lower quarter we have the Canadian crown, as the castle is currently owned by Queens University. Under that, we have two arrows crossed if it's the archers, two swords for the Knights, two drum sticks for the drummers and a tent shape for Living history.
